10k Run • 5k Run/Walk • 2mi Run
The Todd Beamer Memorial Run commemorates a young man who lived his short life with a view of helping others. Popular among runners throughout Central Oregon, the race will mark its 27th year on July 4th, 2023. Racers can choose to run the 10k, 5k, or 2mi routes, which all follow the same course, or walk the 5k route. Everything kicks off at Sahalee Park in Madras where competitive runners will be bussed to their starting points on Grizzly Road. An award ceremony will follow all races, at 9:00am.
About Todd Beamer:
Todd Beamer was a student/athlete that graduated from Madras High School in 1987 and as team quarterback helped guide the Madras White Buffalo football team into the state playoffs. He went on to play four years for the Eastern Oregon University Mounties where he also served two years as an assistant football coach.
After leaving EOU, Todd taught and coached at Neah Ka Nie High School in Rockaway, Oregon until his death in 1997. He was a much-beloved teacher, coach, and friend. He drowned trying to rescue the family’s four dogs from an irrigation siphon.
His legacy of “the things you do for yourself die with you, the things that you do for others go on and on” is the annual July 4th Memorial Run theme in its 27th year.
